2008 is the Year of the Rat in Chinese astrology. It’s also the year of the Beijing olympics and all kinds of stories about China are appearing on radio, and television and in print media. Recently protests in Tibet and Nepal and the crackdown by the Chinese government has been a hot topic. Macleans magazine has a story about China that ‘pulls no punches’. One thing is for sure - this summer we will learn a lot more about China, and if western press can document freely, hopefully see a lot more of the globe’s newest superpower.
