Often when I blog here I tend toward technological tools (Voicethread), media resources (NFB), or shameless self-promotion (conferences, teacher/designer for hire!). But some of you may know I also blog on wider topics at my main personal blog at iam.strongandfree.ca. I’m interested in design, art, media, culture, travel, urban issues and education. One thing I will tend to touch on is the importance of art, as both facilitator of self-reflection and spark toward social action. I have a couple of virtual museum websites to recommend to you. Read on!
Recently Google launched the Google Art Project:
“Explore museums from around the world, discover and view hundreds of artworks at incredible zoom levels, and even create and share your own collection of masterpieces.”
http://www.googleartproject.com/
and for those Canadians out there – there’s the Virtual Museum of Canada:
“As an endless source of discoveries, virtualmuseum.ca is a unique interactive space that brings together Canadian museum collections and riches in a variety of thought-provoking and instructive contents. It’s your window on current museum news and your reference guide to plan your next outing. Enter your Canadian museum space.”

Some virtual exhibits lean toward historical and cultural topics and micro-sites have been developed. An interesting one, that tells the story of Canada and its immigrants is the GWG Jeans site (the link jumps right in to the “Teachers” section):
