The typical “Get Tech” Workshop takes between 3 and 5 hours. Modules, such as those dealing with website and blog creation can take more time, if the participants are creating blogs, and providing content such as writing, photographs and multimedia (bookings for multiple evenings or weekends can be made).
Introduction by Mike
Part 1 – Computers and the Internet have revolutionized the way we live our lives. Are you familiar with terms like: killer app, the cloud, web 2.0? you don’t have to be a tech geek to understand what these ideas are and where the digital world is heading.
Part 2 – Websites and Blogs are the most relevant areas to focus on. Which sites are most useful? How does a “post” better represent web 2.0 better than a “page?” For Teachers: Can you create your own and encourage students to produce online writing or multimedia?
Part 3 - Tools of the Trade is a description of peripherals such as printers that print on cds, to usb flash drives and other backup systems to cables that connect your video iPod to a television. From RCA to HDMI, we tackle tech tools.
Part 4 – Gadgets and Devices looks at projectors, the new generation of “netbooks,” iPods/mp3 players, cell phones, pocket pcs and the newest smart phones operating on iOS (iPad/iPhone/iTouch), Android, Windows 7 and Blackberry. How are these devices changing our workflow or enabling new forms of expression / communication?
Part 5 – Practical Usage is an area I’m passionate about – How exactly do we take this knowledge and technology and put it to work for us, making education easier, or at the least, more interesting? How can you create a video resume? How can a teacher build and use a blog with her class? With a dizzying array of tools at your disposal how can you best explore them and how do you know which one will work best for you?
